Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.

All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.

Akela also has an impressive size at 100 lbs. and a real presence wherever he goes and inside that muscular body and majestic stance is a happy, friendly, outgoing dog. Akela loves people, other dogs, and is really a fun loving dog! His tail will swish with delight over nearly everything throughout the day. At the very center of this magnificent dog lies that legendary German shepherd loyal heart. If a German shepherd has ever loved you, then you know exactly what we mean. His devotion to you will be total. He will greet your friends, play with other dogs, but his life will center around you and yours. He has had minimal training throughout his young life, but his desire to please you and his great intelligence should make that activity a wonderful experience for both of you. You will get to see him "blossom" right in front of your eyes as he "gets it". If you are ready for the experience of a lifetime, come make Akela yours.

P.S. See the picture of him with the rest of his "pack" a the bottom of this page? The other two dogs, Snowbird and Sabra, are also up for adoption on our site. Just thought you might like to see the rest of his "kin".

A SPECIAL NOTE TO YOU FROM HIS FOSTERS: He is wonderful, calm, well-behaved dog. He has been to numerous adoption events, meeting many other people and dogs and was always friendly. He just wants to be where his people or canine friends are. He is housebroken and not a barker. He walks on the leash like a show dog. He shows no interest in small animals while walking but would probably chase them off leash so no CATS or other animals in the house he might see as prey. He knows some commands like sit and down. He must be with an experienced large dog owner and with another canine companion. He could benefit from additional training and was evaluated with very positive results for being easily trained.

Akela is very calm and quiet besides an occasional howl or bark. He is a strong boy who will definitely need to go to a household that is familiar with the German Shepherd breed and is committed to his training. I just love this boy, he is so beautiful and such a friendly guy. I feel he will easily adapt to a household that is very consistent with their routine. He has shown a little separation anxiety and tried to escape from his run and his crate. This often occurs with dogs while they are settling into a new home. Once he became more comfortable in his new environment this stopped. He is not food aggressive or treat aggressive. He plays with a specific stuffed goose and other dogs now. Akela is a big adorable white fur ball. He will really make someone a super companion because that is just what he is and should be - a companion.  He really would do best with another canine companion and someone who is home a lot.
