Baxter
by Libby Marquardt

Over the past 20 years of doing rescue, I have fostered at least 50 dogs... some stayed, some went on to forever homes. Each was a learning experience for me, as well as the dog. I learned so much about dog behavior and training, that hopefully it has been passed on to the hundreds of dogs I've dealt with in rescue over the years.Web Image: baxter

Our first foster was a beautiful, long hair German Shepherd named Jake... he was incredibly handsome and smart... and would play ball, on and on. He was in high demand due to his looks, but finally after many inquiries and applications, he was adopted. Little did I realize that my husband was bonding so with this particular dog... and when Jake left, I was given the silent treatment for 2 weeks. It seems he thought Jake was going to become a permanent part of our family. Since that time I have had to preface every foster with they are ONLY FOSTERS!!! and will be going to a home.

Then a few months ago, after not having fostered in a while, we were all set to foster Baxter, a 5 month old Golden Retriever... well he's still here now and not going anywhere. Guess I'm a foster failure!!! lol... but never a regret for all the fosters that have come through our home.
