Shep needs a caretaker or foster! Won't you consider helping him get a new start?

All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.

A young, happy, playful boy, Shep is going to be perfect for an active individual or family. He loves to stretch those long legs of his and would also be a superior running/jogging/hiking buddy. He has been romping joyfully with other dogs. A great, friendly, outgoing temperament completes the package! Shep is going to be such a good family dog. He has all the characteristics to make him the best dog you have ever had. We have helped him along by making sure he has been neutered already for you, has all his shots, and has been completely vet checked. Shep is ready to trot right out the door and into your life!

A note from his foster family!

Shep is an amazing young dog, but one beyond the puppy stage!  He would do best in a home with another young dog that he could run and play with all day, and then sleep all night.  If we had to choose a famous dog he was related to, we have decided it would be Scooby-Do.  He enjoys many of the same things-loves dog treats, rides in the van, hanging out with his humans, and going on adventures! He loves all dogs and is curious about cats-meaning he will sniff, but if they swat or hiss, well he is in the next room peeking around the corner- like we said, just like Scooby-Do! He is fine in a crate, as long as it accommodates his very long legs.  Shep is mostly house broken, as long as he is not left for longer than about 8-9 hours. He is learning to walk on a leash, but will still pull, so we are using a Freedom harness with much success.  If by chance you drop the leash, not to worry-he comes to you when called. We have a 3 year old in our house, but would not recommend he live with young children only because he will lick them so hard they will fall down. He has no idea of his own personal space and strength, so we have to put him in the sit position to get him focused and more calm when visitors arrive.Shep totally has the Scooby-do ears, but his coat is a beautiful brindle mix of brown and black threads straight down his back and legs. His fur is short and he doesn't shed a whole lot.  He has some really big feet we must say!  His bark is intimidating-loud like a shepherd, and enduring like a hound.  He doesn't use it very often, so when he does, it is striking! Shep still has some puppy qualities-we continue to work on his mouthing for example. He will continue to need a lot of toys to be given to him when he wants to chew on your arm and wrist. This is not biting-he is actually just  very excited to play and love you, and is easily redirected with a toy.  He doesn't chew up things in our home-but a couple stuffed animals have met with a deadly fate!He is an all around wonderful young dog, and will be a great addition to any family looking for a great pet!
